Is obesity surgery right for me?
There is no
standard weight over which you become a suitable candidate for weight
loss surgery. You should calculate your body mass index (BMI) as an indication of whether bariatric
surgery is an option. If you are unsure about calculating your BMI but are concerned that you are seriously overweight, call
Gravitas on 08452 515 515 and they will calculate your BMI for you.
Bariatric surgery and weight loss treatments from
Gravitas
Gravitas
specialises only in weight loss surgery and their teams are experts in this
specialised field. Their experience enables them to offer individually tailored
weight
loss surgery procedures that best meet your individual needs.
If you have
a BMI of 27 or over and want to lose between 2 and 3 stone without an operation
then the gastric balloon could be the answer.
A soft,
adjustable collar (the gastric
band) is clipped around the top of the stomach using keyhole surgery. When
inflated, the band delays the passage of solid food through the upper part of
the stomach.
The gastric
bypass has two different ways of encouraging weight loss – smaller portions
and reduced calorie absorption. Portion size is controlled with the creation of
a small pouch of stomach at the bottom end of the gullet.
Even though
the duodenal switch is technically more complex than the band and gastric
bypass, it is still performed with keyhole surgery by Gravitas’
expert obesity surgeons.
The POSE (Primary Obesity
Surgery Endoluminal) is performed by passing special instruments through
the mouth and into the stomach. The surgeon then creates ‘folds’ in the stomach
to reduce the amount of food it can hold.
The sleeve
gastrectomy is performed with keyhole surgery and the stomach is restricted
by dividing it vertically and removing more than 85% of it.
StomaphyX®
is an innovative surgical device for performing incisionless gastric pouch
reduction after weight loss surgery. Without any external incisions or internal
dissection, StomaphyX® creates tissue folds in the gastric pouch to
reduce its total size, typically as much as 50-70%.
Re-do
surgery should only be carried out in highly specialised and experienced units.
Within the Gravitas network, they have access to some of the most highly
trained and experienced bariatric surgeons in the UK.
