Am I suitable for corrective eye laser treatment?

Fortunately most people are suitable for laser surgery. You are likely to be a suitable candidate if you are affected by any of the following:

Short Sight (Myopia)

If you need vision correction to see things clearly at a distance, you are short sighted. Without spectacles or contact lenses your vision is blurred.

Long Sight (Hyperopia)

If you need vision correction to read or see things close up, you are long sighted. Depending on your age you may have problems focusing on distant objects too.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is caused by an abnormally shaped cornea, which is shaped more like a rugby ball
than a football and causes the distortion of images. Many short or long sighted people may also have astigmatism.

Reading Spectacles (Presbyopia)

Most people start to need reading glasses when they reach their 40’s and 50’s, even if they have never had to wear spectacles before. Presbyopia should not be confused with long-sight. There is currently no laser treatment to eliminate the need for reading spectacles, but if you are unsure whether or not you would be suitable please contact us as we may be able to offer you an alternative solution.

How laser vision correction works

Your eye functions in very much the same way as a camera. The iris (coloured part of the eye) acts as a shutter to regulate the amount of light entering the eye.

The cornea (clear window at the front of the eye) and the lens (located behind the pupil) focus light rays from the objects you are viewing onto the retina at the back of the eye. The retina then transmits the ‘picture’ to the brain where the object is seen.

In order for you to see clearly, light rays need to focus on the back of the eye. If not, a blurred image is transmitted to the brain and this refractive error is usually corrected by spectacles or contact lenses.
