The Centre for Assisted Fertilisation: Infertility clinics in Rome and Naples

CFA logo
CFA, founded and directed by Professor Brian Dale, a leading British Reproductive Scientist, is the largest IVF centre in Italy with clinics in Rome and Naples. With more than 3000 babies born over the last ten years, CFA is considered to be amongst the best in Europe, thanks also to its Internationally qualified staff.

CFA has treated hundreds of couples from the UK, USA, Switzerland and the Middle East.

Why choose Italy for fertility treatment?

Childless couples not only have to bear the brunt of an expensive medical treatment, but are also often faced with failure and the stress of years of diagnoses and trials. International statistics indicate an overall success rate of 35-45% in the best accredited clinics and many fall below this level. CFA offers maximal success rates  - at a competitive cost - in the most sought after holiday destinations in Europe. Many of their overseas patients spend 4 days on the Sorrento Peninsula, or in the City of Rome.

Italian IVF legislation ( Legge 40; 2004; modified 151/2009) is one of the most favourable in Europe, allowing both oocyte and embryo freezing and the transfer of up to 3 embryos, which is of particular importance to  women over 38 years of age.

Infertility treatments in Italy

The Centres in Italy offer all the state of the art treatments from IVF, ICSI, IMSI, TESE through to assisted hatching, blastocyst culture and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, in a caring and attentive environment. For cases of repetitive IVF failure and recurrent abortion CFA offers Intralipid Infusion Therapy.

Embryological expertise

Laboratory knowhow and innovations are at the forefront of CFA activities thanks to the background and training of its founder and director.  Dr Brian Dale, Ph.D., D.Sc., F.I.Biol., has published over 110 scientific papers and 7 books in the field of reproduction and is also co-inventor of USA patents with Jacques Cohen for air purifying equipment used worldwide to improve human embryo quality in IVF laboratories.

CFA has a well established oocyte freezing and vitrification programme. With births from November 2006, this is of prime importance for patients receiving chemotherapy, avoiding litigation over embryo paternity and of course for extended fertility (deferring childbirth while conserving reproductive potential).

The staff at CFA have recently introduced the new technique IMSI to improve the outcome of ICSI, where the spermatozoon selected for microinjection is screened at very high magnifications.  Analysis of DNA fragmentation in sperm is routine and metabolomics, the identification of oocyte and embryo viability, will be introduced clinically after trials in progress.

Clinica Villa Del Sole - Napoli

The locations in Italy

Rome, the eternal city, requires little introduction. CFA's purpose built IVF Centre is centrally located and easily accessed from Fiumicino and Ciampino airports and the Terminus railway station.

Their Naples unit is housed in the prestigious private hospital, Clinica Villa Del Sole, located in the panoramic district of Vomero with fabulous views of the Bay and Vesuvius from the patient rooms. The hospital is a state of the art facility with telemedicine facilities to St Lukes Hospital in Texas and has a long standing relationship with the local NATO base.

Donation and surrogacy

The CFA European donor programme is carried out in their associated centres in Greece and, Spain and the Czech Republic. Patients who require sperm or egg donation or surrogacy are registered and treated directly from their London office, by their donor co-ordinator, Peter Dale, Msc. Gamete donation is anonymous and altruistic. They do not have an egg-sharing programme.

What does it cost?

To facilitate CFA's expatriate patients the cost for IVF or ICSI is £1900, excluding medication. Assisted hatching, blastocyst transfer, IMSI,  freezing or TESE cost an additional £250 each. Contact the Donor office for prices for this service.

How do I enroll at CFA?

The first step is to fill in a questionnaire from one of their websites, send an email or call them directly.

One of their consultants will call you back and discuss your treatment options.

You will then receive a schedule and protocol.

Preparations for the cycle may be carried out in the UK, in that case you need only spend 4 days in Italy, alternatively the whole cycle can be carried out in Italy.

They can arrange for local medical care in the UK before and after treatment.
