Guys and St Thomas NHS Logo

Offering fertility, gynaecology and genetic services, the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of  the most experienced fertility clinics in the UK.

The Assisted Conception Unit (ACU), based at Guy's Hospital (close to London Bridge station) has over 22 years experience since the unit has been open. They have a team of fertility specialists that include consultants, embryologists, scientists, nurses and counsellors who are dedicated to delivering the best personalised care to each patient at the ACU.

The ACU at Guy’s hospital provides one of the most competitively priced packages in the country. The unit offers in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, (IUI) Intrauterine Insemination and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). It is the largest unit in the country for Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) services for conditions such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease.  The ACU unit is also one of a few clinics in the UK licensed to carry out stem cell research.

They are passionate about giving their patients excellent levels of care without having to worry about any hidden costs. Treatment cycles starting from as little as £3,000. Patients do not pay extra for additional monitoring they may need during their treatment with ACU at Guy's.

Regularly featured on the BBC and other television channels, fertility treatments and services at the Assisted Conception Unit are led by world renowned fertility specialists.

At the Assisted Conception Unit, they feel passionate about giving patients a range of options from NHS funding to private consultant led care packages. There are two types of funding options available for patients that are paying for their fertility investigations and treatment: self funded and consultant led personalised care.

  • They accept NHS patients and have no waiting lists (as long as you fit in with the criteria set by the NHS), assisting you in the process by applying for NHS funding.
  • They offer a competitively priced self-funding package for treatment cycles that has no hidden costs.
  • They also have privately funded consultant led treatment that is different to self-funded treatment, as you can select which consultant you would like to deliver your care. The consultant will be available to see you at all your appointments and will conduct any procedures you may require. You will also get direct access to the consultant, together with a dedicated telephone number so that you can contact them if you have any questions throughout your treatment.

The fertility treatments and services offered by the Assisted Conception Unit are of the highest standards with success rates above the national average, and indeed the unit consistently ranks amongst the highest rated in the country for In vitro fertilisation (IVF) published by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), with whom they are licensed to practice a variety of assisted conception techniques, including:

  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) - Intra-uterine insemination allows prepared sperm to be introduced into the womb.
  • In vitro fertilisation (IVF) - IVF is a three-stage procedure that allows prepared sperm to be introduced into the womb.
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) - ICSI is when a single sperm is injected into an egg. There are several stages in this treatment.

  • Donor insemination (DI) - is a procedure which uses donor sperm, instead of that of the partner.
  • Ovum donation (OD) - allows a woman to become pregnant when she is unable to successfully conceive using her own eggs.
  • Surgical sperm retrieval (PESA/TESE)
  • Cryopreservation of sperm/embryos - this procedure gives patients the option of having excess embryos/sperm frozen, to be used in future cycles.
  • Reproductive surgery (including treatment for fibroids)
