Foot and ankle treatment and surgery

The Consultant Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeons at the Oxford Clinic offer the whole range of foot and ankle interventions and are at the forefront of world orthopaedics in their specialty.  They run both a local and a tertiary referral practice for orthopaedic colleagues referring from around the UK and internationally. 

The Oxford Clinic is a one-stop destination with a full range of on-site diagnostics including MRI, interventional radiology and a team of orthotists is available for the non-operative management of foot and ankle conditions.  Modern techniques can eliminate the need for plaster of paris or wires in toes and allows for early mobilisation. 

Minimally invasive procedures can clear the joints and tissues of abnormal growths and debris and are commonly performed to relieve symptoms of 'footballer's ankle'. 

The most common operations performed by their specialists include:

• Forefoot reconstruction – modern reconstructive techniques are used to correct bunions, hallux valgus, hallux rigidus (stiff big toe), lesser toe deformities and metatarsalgia (forefoot pain). 

• Achilles tendon repair and reconstruction – for acute and chronic conditions. 

• Arthroscopy and minimally invasive surgery – for symptoms of arthritis (swelling, tenderness or other pain), inflammation and sports injury of the ankle, subtalar and toe joints and tendon problems. 

• Arthroscopic arthrodesis or fusion – eliminates movement in specific parts of the foot or ankle to combat symptoms of arthritis, as above. 

• Flat foot reconstruction – for symptoms of 'flat foot', can now be performed instead of joint fusion.

• Complex foot reconstruction – for treatment of foot pain and loss of mobility for a variety of conditions affection multiple parts of the foot. 

• Total ankle replacement – for symptoms of end stage arthritis and usually an alternative to ankle fusion.

• Revision surgery – for repeat operations for a variety of reasons including failed or worn out implants, in particular for ankle replacement and fusion.  These operations require highly specialised equipment and expertise.

A full range of care
