It is a safe, effective method of birth
control for women who have completed their families or for those who do
not wish to have children.

The procedure
Sterilisation works by sealing the fallopian tubes that carry eggs from
the ovaries to the uterus. This prevents the egg and sperm meeting. The eggs are just reabsorbed by the body. The
procedure itself is very straightforward and is preformed by highly
trained gynaecologists. It is carried out under general anaesthetic or
sedation and clips are used to seal the fallopian tubes. It only takes
15-20 minutes to complete.
Considerations
It is a permanent
method, so you should only consider it if you either do not want
children or have all the children they want. If you have any doubts,
you should choose a different method. Female sterilisation offers no
protection against sexually transmitted infections/HIV/AIDS.
Effectiveness
Female sterilisation is over
99% effective. Only about 1 in 200 women will still become pregnant after having a sterilisation.
