Vision correction

Birkdale Clinic practices many types of vision correction, including the ever-popular LASIK laser eye treatment. Whilst this treatment is by far the most well known procedure, there are other treatments which are often more appropriate to some people who are seeking visions correction.

Treatments offered

Laser: Modern technology allows treatment for very low to moderately high degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Birkdale Clinic use LASIK, LASEK and Wavefront Guided LASIK/LASEK procedures.
CLE or Clear Lens Extraction: Many patients found unsuitable for Laser Eye Surgery can be treated with this technique. It is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce or eliminate the need for distance glasses or contact lenses. CLE corrects your vision by removing the crystalline lens in the eye and replacing it with a new artificial lens of an appropriate focusing power.
Crystalens: In most cases after cataract surgery or clear lens extraction a single vision-fixed focus implant is placed in the eye. Recently multi focal (similar to a multi focal or varifocal lenses in spectacles) implants and accommodative implants have become available for these cases.
Phakic IOL: In the Phakic IOL procedure, an intra-ocular lens is placed inside the eye. The Implantable Contact Lens, or ICL, is placed between the iris and crystalline lens.

Cataract surgery

Cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and amazingly takes only a few minutes to complete. It’s now one of the most common, and the successful and safest medical procedures performed today.
