Emergency hospital treatment is handled well by the NHS, and so, there has previously been little interest in private emergency treatment services.
However, public demand for hospital Accident and Emergency departments has reportedly risen dramatically and research last year for the NHS by MORI ("Interest in Medical Centres for Commuters") indicates that people working in London would appreciate having access to rapid expert medical attention with no appointment necessary.
As a result, some private healthcare providers are exploring the potential for offering on demand urgent (rather than emergency treatment) services for private patients, which require no prior appointment.
