Expert cancer treatment at Spire Healthcare

The expert cancer specialists at Spire Healthcare work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide personalised and caring treatment and support.  They are highly experienced in the treatment of most forms of cancer, and offer all the latest treatment options:

Chemotherapy is the use of medicines to kill cancer cells.  It may be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments, such as surgery and radiotherapy.  The consultant oncologists at Spire Healthcare have access to the most-up-to-date developments in chemotherapy, such as targeted therapies, and the treatment is delivered in comfortable dedicated suites by experienced specialist nurses.

Radiotherapy is the use of high energy x-rays to destroy or shrink a tumour.  It can be delivered from a machine outside of the body (external radiotherapy), or as a drink or implanted seeds (brachytherapy).  Radiotherapy is used to treat a cancer directly or to reduce the chances of it returning after surgery.  Spire Health Care is now able to offer treatment using the latest cutting edge radiotherapy machines, Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), which use targeted high dose radiation to increase the effectiveness of treatment and minimise the side effects.

Cancer surgery at Spire Healthcare is always performed by a specialist cancer surgeon, who also leads the multidisciplinary team that has been assigned to the care of a patient, from their diagnosis to aftercare.  Spire Healthcare has some of the lowest rates of hospital acquired infection in the country and publish information on MRSA and CDifficile rates on their website.  Common surgical treatments at Spire Healthcare include:

  • Breast cancer surgery, including breast lump removal, mastectomy and breast reconstruction
  • Prostate surgery, including prostatectomy
  • Laser prostate surgery
  • High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for prostate cancer
  • Bowel cancer surgery
