With both inpatient and day unit facilities for cancer patients,  the London Bridge Hospital offers a comfortable and friendly environment tailored to suit each patient's needs.

 

Chemotherapy day unit 

Situated in 29 Tooley Street, this newly refurbished specialised cancer unit is equipped with state of the art equipment and run by a friendly and supportive team of senior cancer nurses and support staff. This warm and open environment has 8 chairs and 1 patient room for day case and outpatient chemotherapy as well as two fully equipped consulting rooms for outpatient consultations. A holistic approach is taken to patient care and as such the unit is able to support clinical and emotional needs in a welcoming atmosphere.

Inpatient cancer services

Situated in comfortable surroundings, the inpatient services specialise in surgical (particularly breast cancer and maxilio-facial cancer) and medical oncology, diagnostic and interventional radiology. There are 13 single rooms, 2 of which are isolation rooms. These are used to treat patients undergoing Stem Cell transplantation following high dose chemotherapy.

 

Their cancer nurses are all qualified within the specialty of cancer nursing giving them the necessary skills to ensure your safety which is paramount and that your stay is made as comfortable as possible. Qualified to administer specialist drug therapies your care will consistently be given by team members who you will come to know well, as the nature of your treatment may require you to spend a prolonged period of time in the hospital.

 

There is a 'Quiet Room' set aside for relatives and they aim to provide you with the environment you need whilst you are ill.

 

Support  Services

In addition to the conventional treatments offered within the cancer service at London Bridge Hospital, a range of support services are available:

  • A Specialist Breast Care Nurse provides support for patients from diagnosis through to treatment and follow up.

  • A Palliative Care Nurse Specialist provides symptom management, counselling, support and help with the transfer of patients to community palliative teams or hospices.

  • A Clinical Psychologist provides counselling on a more formal basis.

  • There is a team of Complementary Therapists who offer aromatherapy, reflexology and massage in a dedicated area within the Chemotherapy day unit.

  • The Hospital Chaplain is able to visit patients during the week and can offer Holy Communion to patients as required.
