I had a 2 night stay following a knee replacement. I had a spinal anaesthetic with sedation which was amazing as I was sat up in bed by midday with none of the usual drowsiness associated with a GA. All the staff were very attentive and the meals were like dining out. It is early days for me post operatively so the long term surgical outcome isn't known but as a hospital experience this was as good as it gets in my opinion.

Miss Kerr expertly performed lens implant surgery on each of my eyes, with two separate procedures scheduled five weeks apart. My experience was consistent on both occasions; the following day when I removed the bandage, it felt like nothing had happened, there was no pain, swelling or redness. However, there was one enormous difference: I could see!!! I am eternally grateful to Miss Kerr and her world-class medical team, for giving me the priceless gift of restored vision. I recommend Miss Kerr in the strongest possible terms. On a performance scale with optimum results of ten (10), she is a solid eleven (11)!!!

This was my first time as an inpatient in hospital. Everyone from the housekeeping lady who fixed the broken toilet flush, to the catering staff who worked hard to tailor the menu/drinks to my preferences were great. The medical staff, in particular, my consultant Mr. Wood, the female anaesthetist (her name badge was out of sight down her back) and Debbie and Peta on floor 2 were all calm, capable and highly caring in their approach to a nervous patient.

Had three appointments at the hospital including the operation and all where excellent. This was in comparison with a number of appointments at a local NHS Hosptial orthopaedic clinic where I felt like a number as staff and facilities were over stretched.

The staff at Woodland were friendly attentive and professional with the exception for one receptionist who unfortunately appeared out of touch and a bit dithery. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and fresh. The level of care during my stay was of the highest standard and the advice on after care was first class. I am looking forward to going back for physio and final consultation and then getting back on the ski slopes next season. Many thanks to all the staff at The Woodland

On this occasion, the whole experience was a 100% improvement on a previous treatment visit, in May '17, when I felt I had been ignored throughout the time I was at the Woodlands Hospital, so much so that I discharged myself prematurely. Following that visit I submitted a extremely negative review which was never responded to, leaving me feeling neglected further.

There were a number of reasons why I went back to the Woodland again but I did so with trepidation. However, there was absolutely nothing to complain about this time & so lots of reasons to write this positive review. The attention from the nursing staff was first class & nurses Hansa & Linzi deserve special praise; the whole experience was perfect from start to finish..



I'm going to stop now in case my review is viewed as being a self-generated piece of puff from the hospital. Suffice it to say that I've generated praise when praise was due.

As a person using Aviva healthcare via work I thought this would be a good experience using private healthcare. I had previously had dealings with the Woodlands hospital in Feb 2014 when they performed a manipulation of my shoulder to try and reduce the pain I was feeling at that time. This operation worked for a short period of time and the consult, Mr Biswas, had informed me that this may not work long-term. He was correct and the pain returned with a vengeance. In March 2015 I was referred to Woodlands and Mr Biswas to assess the pain and possible solutions. The experience was completely different to the first visit in 2014. The initial consultation went well and I was informed I would need an MRI. This was delayed for 3 weeks due to the only person who could inject the dye into my shoulder for the MRI being on paternity leave. Considering the pain was causing me to not sleep well I just needed the issue fixed so being delayed for 3 weeks waiting for an MRI was difficult. I received the MRI and then organised to see Mr Biswas for a follow-up consultation. This went ahead but I was told that the procedure would be handled by another consultant, Mr Shukla and that they would discuss dates and arrange for an investigative Arthroscopy to be performed ASAP. This was the Thursday before Easter. On the Tuesday I contacted the Administration department who handle scheduling of the operations to be told that Mr Biswas or his secretary had not informed them of and operations or dates. More delay. I then called over the next 3 days and spoke to them on several occasions to be finally told that I might need to meet the new consultant to discuss options, etc,. I had already been told the MRI could not discover anything other than a torn muscle and thickening on the capsule in the shoulder so why would meeting the new consult shed any further light on an investigative arthroscopy? It has now been a week and still no date in the diary and still in vast amounts of pain. The service has reduced dramatically in the last year and if I was the hospital board I would be looking at the current feedback and trace where the issue is arising. I will be discussing this with Aviva and seeing if there is another hospital that can be recommended to it's clients in the future as service here is not what is expected from private healthcare. One final thing. during previous experiences my appointments were fairly good, maybe 5 mins out which is acceptable. The appointments I've had during this experience have been anywhere from 30-50 mins delay which is unacceptable.

I have received an exceptional level of care from the nursing staff and surgeons at Woodland Hospital ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On my last stay one of the nurses (Lesley) took the best possible care of me and even moved her shifts around today so that she could come and see me after my Oncology appointment.



The surgeons take an exceptional amount of pride in their work (especially Mr Sankar & Mr Rashed) and they genuinely care about your outcome. They work very well together and are highly professional.



The only drawback I had this time was from the Healthcare Assistant who left me sitting naked on a stool expecting me to wash myself when I was unable to do so after my operation, this was upsetting as it left me feeling vulnerable and alone and was a polar opposite to the way that I was cared for by Barbara on my last stay.

I have had the most awful experience at this hospital, if this is the standard of private health care I think I will stick with NHS, far more reliable and efficiently run from an administration perspective. I had an appointment booked, I turned up at that date and time and was told it was two hours earlier. I was not pleased! my whole day was planned around it. I get the feeling I am being seen by an expert who is on a couple of hours overtime with private healthcare whilst being handsomely paid by NHS in the day. Its not good at all! I was also advised on the 16th Deceember I would get an apology and a call back, its now the 5th January, still no call, I call and call them, but they never answer their telephone. Very poor experience for private healthcare

Having PMI I had expected a little better service from The Woodlands. My stay, although short, was comfortable and the staff who look after you in your room and my consultant Mr Shah were all excellent.

However, the reception staff I found to be far from helpful and at times rude. I work for and Insurance Company who recommend PMI, and although I get my insurance through work, this is the first experience I have had on the "other side". I do not think I got value for money and would be dubious about recommending the Woodlands following on from this.

Mr Shah has been brilliant - you just need to get more professional reception staff as they are the first point of contact!

On this visit it was obvious that everyone, reception, domestic, catering and nursing had picked up the pace. Excellent care and food much improved. As usual "the maestro" Mr Bromage gave me full confidence. I have no reason to think that in a few months the second replacement will be running around the court as efficiently as the first.

He has spent the last 3 weeks receiving antibiotics, losing a stone and a half in weight. He has received a fantastic service from the doctors and nurses at Kettering hospital. I feel that the woodlands hospital has a policy of treat and out the door, with a lack of after care. His surgeon has not seen him since the operation which confounds my beliefs. I'm sure the staff and nurses are providing an excellent service, but so they should for a private hospital. He is now recovering well after a dismal Christmas and New Year.

After the op absolute rubbish came around in a different room not as nice as the first room. Given a sandwich after eating nothing all day I was starving. Asked for my flavoured water but they forgot to get my water. Told me to get dressed and sort my lift I am going home when I still felt dizzy and not with it. Wife came to collect me but was given wrong directions to my whereabouts. Had to direct her to a room on a different floor and stumble to the door to let her know which room I was in as know one was at the desk. Just got dressed and left in shock. Had a op last year in the new wing at kettering General on NHS and this was a million times better.
P.S. on a good note. The lady who shown me how to use the crutches was brilliant so helpful even rang the next day to see how I was doing and to let me know about my follow up appointment.

I later asked for a copy of this to be sent to me and was slightly irritated to be told to make a written request.

Other than that my whole experience was a positive one - the reception and clinical staff that I met were courteous and cheerful in manner. The coffee was good too!.

Nothing was too much trouble for the nursing staff. They were caring and attentive and made sure that all pain relief necessary was provided. We could not have asked for any more.

From admittance to discharge from hospital all staff (admin, catering, nursing, cleaning, operating staff etc) provided a professional and empathetic support which helped with the recovery process.

I thank you all, again.

Mr Paul Wood, the consultant, could not have been any more supportive. Your professional concern and skill was very much appreciated by all the family. You are real gentleman, and a credit to your profession.

Although I have indicated that I would not recommend Woodlands to a friend, the medical side was excellent. However, a great deal of my stress could have been alleviated with better communication systems.
PROS:
1)The hospital environment is very pleasant, clean and welcoming. 2) My consultant, Ms Kerr was excellent. Professional, knowledgeable and to the point.
3)Theare and Recovery staff very professional and caring. I appreciated their support and consideration.
4)My bedroom was room was clean and comfortable,
CONS:
1) Communication between the consultant and the hospital staff poor. The hospital staff were unaware that Ms Kerr was on holiday. I had questions that I wanted answered before my op and there was no-one to advise me for 10 days. Stressful!
2)Told to arrive at 7.30am. By 8,45am no-one had come to see me and no explanation given about the delay. Apparently this was due to a problem upstairs but no-one had thought to let us know. I found the waiting very stressful.
3) Only food offered at 11.30am (approx.) was a cup of tea and 2 biscuits. As we had a 5am start, something more substantial would have been appreciated e.g. toast or a sandwich.
4) Not enough information given to me re post op care. The booklet is inadequate and does not cover several things I wanted to know e.g. how long to keep the eye shields on at night. This meant I had to email Ms Kerr with my queries which was not an easy thing to do after a lens replacement op!
5) Following one email, Ms Kerr requested some information to be sent to me which arrived on the 30th July. As my op was on the 20th July, this information should have been given to me MUCH earlier and probably before I left the hospital or after my initial examination.. I think the booklet 'Cataract Surgery' information is inadequate. The A4 sheets entitled: 'Information for Patients: Cataract Surgery' is MUCH better.
I trust this information will be helpful in addressing some areas that I consider to need I attention and improvement.. I have saved hard for this op and I thought that everything would be of the highest standard, including the support systems. I was disappointed that this was NOT the case.

I found the admission process was very streamlined and it took no longer than 10 minutes from entering the building, to being settled in my newly decorated room.
The room was very comfortable, which included my own bathroom, TV and great views across the countryside. The food was excellent and the menu offered a varied choice.
The nurses and staff were all very friendly and the continuity of care from one shift to the next was first rate and seamless.
My Consultant was fantastic. Very clear, precise and above all very friendly. I had a load of queries over the 4 day stay and he was more than happy to take the time to talk them through.
Also, upon discharge he spent a long time explaining the on-going medication and follow up treatments which left me very confident on departure.
I have been a patient at the Woodland Hospital on 5 different occasions over the years.
Each and every time I have received the same quality of care and would definitely recommend it.

Extremely disappointed this time - took 20 mins for the Fast Track premium check in and then was led to something like a pod rather than a bedroom. Not a lot of privacy, no en-suite, even though the documentation had said this would be provided. Very small room and very stark, not at all comfortable. Very disappointing considering this was a private hospital- That said the care of the doctors and nurses was attentive but would definitely check the room out if needed to go in again.

Despite the hospital requiring my arrival for a specific time they kept me waiting for 15 minutes without any apology before I was taken to my room. They even hand you a TV remote control on check-in! (god knows why?)
The room was fine, airy albeit small with complimentary soap and shampoo. However it was over a further hour from my arrival that the hospital team decided to attend to me to prepare me for my operation.
The operating team were excellent and proficient with little pain.
Back in my room, the nursing team looked after me. However my hand was throbbing with the intravenous line fitted. So I asked for this to be removed and I was refused. The following day when it finally was removed to be released from the hospital, my hand had extensive bruising caused by the agony I had to endure with the intravenous line fitted. Its was disappointing they didn't remove it when I had asked them to.
Food was good, but I don't see it living up to their 'a la carte' status that they claim to have. Nor was I offered any newspaper - perhaps I needed to beg for it!
Check out was fast, although they didn't have all my prescription drugs available so I had to return the following day to collect them.

Summary - Ok, but could have so much better
