Based in the Maternity Unit at Watford General Hospital, The Knutsford Suite is a luxurious private unit offering women a caring and supportive space to recover from birth and get to know their new baby. Located in Hertfordshire, Watford General Hospital is also easily accessible from London, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Essex.
High quality postnatal care
The well appointed rooms at the Knutsford Suite are designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment. Each room is equipped with an ensuite wet room, adjustable bed, flat screen television, hairdryer, luxury bed linen and quality toiletries. Hotel style a la carte menus to meet every taste and dietary requirement are available.
Mothers and babies are transferred to the Knutsford Suite from the Maternity Unit immediately after the birth. Experienced midwives are on hand to offer advice and support on caring for a newborn baby and breastfeeding. Prior to discharge the baby receives a thorough examination and efficient liaison with the community midwives ensures a smooth transfer of care.

The Maternity Unit at Watford General Hospital is one of the largest birthing units in the UK, staffed by highly experienced obstetricians, midwives, anaesthetists and paediatricians. The main delivery suite has seven delivery rooms, observation bays for women at risk of complications and two obstetric operating theatres. For women expecting a straightforward delivery, The Alexandra Birthing Centre is equipped with 8 delivery rooms, two rooms for water births and a sensory room. The midwives at The Alexandra Birthing Centre are particularly experienced in water births, recording one of the highest rates in the UK.
As a large NHS Hospital, Watford General Hospital offers outstanding facilities in the eventuality of a baby or mother needing medical care following birth, including a level 2 neonatal unit and a new state-of-the-art acute admissions unit.

Ways to pay for private treatment at The Knutsford Suite
The Knutsford Suite offers a number of different care packages to suit each woman's individual needs and budget.
Self pay
For patients without private medical insurance, a deposit of £2,800 is payable in advance for all private maternity packages. In the case of a normal delivery, a partial refund will be made dependent on the length of stay in the unit. It is important to note that no refund from the deposit is applicable in the event of a caesarean section.
Post-natal care can be booked on a room only basis by paying a £1750 deposit, which covers a 4 night stay at a nightly rate of £430. A refund will be paid for any nights not used. Fully private patients do take precedence for rooms on the Knutsford Suite, and although unlikely, if a room is not available, a room only patient may be transferred to Katherine Ward, in which case a full refund will be made.
Insured patients
Patients with private medical insurance are required to provide the hospital with an authorisation number from their insurer prior to admission.
