A cataract operation involves the removal of a cataract, a cloudy lens in the eye, and the insertion of a lens implant.  In the majority of cases no stitches are required, and treatment is normally carried out with a local anaesthetic.

Most patients have  a cataract operation as a day case, although some opt to stay in hospital over night.
