Vocal Fold Polyp

These are similar to vocal fold nodules, except that rather than being hard, they are similar to blisters, soft fluid filled sacs and again usually appear in pairs.

Causes

Voice misuse and abuse.
(See above voice abuse section).

Symptoms

Due to the presence of the polyp on the vocal fold the vocal fold vibration is interrupted leading to an abnormal voice quality.

  • Hoarse voice.
  • Reduced pitch range and durability.
  • No pain.

Treatment

  • Increased voice care awareness.
  • Vocal tract relaxation.
  • Open throat speech technique.
  • Awareness of throat tension during speech.

Prognosis

Excellent - with treatment advice being adhered to.
