CO2 laser skin resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a procedure that selectively abrades the upper layers of the skin using the heat generated from a resurfacing laser. It works by means of vaporising the damaged skin layers and allowing the healthier cells, from deeper layers of skin, to surface and form a new smoother outer layer of skin.

Lasers can penetrate deeply into the skin and promote re-organisation of collagen, which helps diminish wrinkles and improve skin tone. They also have a tightening effect, which can aid skin tone and appearance.

Carbon-dioxide lasers are generally the strongest resurfacing lasers, and may be especially recommended if you have fair skin, severe sun-damage, or deep wrinkles.

After covering your eyes with protective guards, your surgeon will perform laser resurfacing by passing the activated laser back and forth over the treatment area until reaching the appropriate depth in the dermis to achieve the desired improvement. The newly resurfaced skin in the treated area, is then covered with protective cream or ointment.

Erbium Laser skin Resurfacing

The erbium laser provides a safer, more accurate, and less painful method of restoring

softer, smoother, more youthful looking skin. Erbium is a milder laser and produces less dramatic results compared to the CO2 laser. As it is milder, the discomfort, possible complications, and recovery time are also reduced. It is preferred in cases where mild to moderate improvement is needed or in case of sensitive skin.

Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. The erbium laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues than other lasers used for resurfacing. This allows the surgeon to gently and comfortably vaporise the damaged skin cells layer by layer.

The area to be treated is prepared with an antiseptic solution. Depending on the area to be treated metal eye shields may be placed to protect the eyes. The treatment field is covered with moderately overlapping laser pulses using spot sizes of 3 to 7 mm. Additional passes are made till the desired depth of skin is vaporised. The number of passes depends on degree of improvement required. Once the passes are completed, the skin is cooled with cold compress and aqueous cream is liberally applied on the treatment area.

Blepharoplasty

The eyes are the main focal point of the face. They play a major role in the attractiveness of the face (at rest and in dynamic movement). Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can remove excess eyelid skin, correct bagginess and puffiness of the eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is usually considered after the age of 35. The idea behind blepharoplasty is fine tuning of the eyelids’ shape, size and enhancing the glow of the eyes. Ideally the upper lid should be just touching the upper part of the iris and the lower lid should be just touching the lower part of the iris without covering too much of the iris or exposing  too much of the same. Any deviation from the normal position of the eyelid could be due to the ageing process, heredity, any birth deformity, smoking, sun damage, inflammation, infection or trauma.

With blepharoplasty there is a lot lesser bleeding and bruising compared to the traditional scalpel method, as the laser seals as it cuts. The overall operation is also quicker as it is a cleaner procedure.
