Buttock augmentation surgery

Buttock augmentation is a procedure to improve the size and shape of the buttocks, either by means of fat transfer or gluteal (buttock) implants. Augmentation by means of fat transfer can provide minimal enhancement, with comparatively quicker recovery. Buttock implants on the other hand provide maximum, longer lasting results, but with longer recovery.

Buttock implants

Buttock implants come in various shapes and forms. They are essentially silicone shells containing silicone fillings. Each type of implant has advantages and disadvantages. There is no one ideal implant for all individuals, under all circumstances. Each type of implant will be discussed and explained during consultation with due regards to an individual’s age, buttock type and size, family history, past medical history, occupation and aesthetic expectations.

The usually available sizes of implants are small, medium and large. The available shapes are round and tear drop. It is now possible to have custom made implants, personalised size and more anatomically shaped.

The surgeon will choose the implant based on your desired results and the limitations of your anatomy.

The procedure

The procedure usually takes 1 to 2 hours to perform. An incision is made 5-6 cm along the midline (between the buttocks). Through this incision, the gluteus or buttock muscle on both sides are lifted to form pockets, into which the implants are placed. Before closing the incision with sutures the surgeon will ensure that the implants are placed comfortably such that they are symmetrical (without any fold) and appear natural, making any changes if necessary.

Buttock lift surgery

buttock lift is a surgery to improve the sagging and reshaping the buttock area. It aims to create a better (rounded) shape by removing any redundant skin and adipose tissue that passes the buttock crease at the (posterior) midline of the thigh.

This surgery is not only useful to improve sagging but can also improve the appearance of buttocks that are either too long or saggy and can also treat skin slackness at specific points.

Types of buttock lift

There are different types of buttock lifting based on the area that needs correction and the subsequent shape of the scar:

  • Upper buttock lifting: Used to treat severe gluteal-trochanteric sagging.

  • DTA lower buttock lifting: Aims to correct moderate excess skin at the lower gluteal crease area by creating a new crease and producing a lifting effect to shorten long buttocks, or to improve any existing gross asymmetry and even to improve a double fold.

  • Medial Buttock Lifting: Used to treat mild sagging when the aim is to treat the saggy tissue and not to lift the lower crease. The scar is usually hidden by the bikini line or can be hidden by a tattoo in the sacral area which is becoming more common these days.

  • Lateral Buttock lifting: Used to correct mild slackness in the trochanteric area.
