Breast augmentation: Implants
There are different types, sizes and shapes of implants available. Implants do not come in cup sizes but in different volumes(cc) and a certain bra size cannot be guaranteed. The choice of the size of the implants, depends on a number of factors, which will be taken into account when the surgeon recommends a particular size for you. The commonly available shapes are round and tear drop shaped implants. Tear drop shaped implants are more for individuals who require fullness at the bottom of the breast and whose primary concern is the shape of the breasts. Round implants are the more commonly used implants that fill the emptiness at the top of the breast as well and look natural in all positions (sitting, standing or lying down). The different profiles of implants available are low, medium and high profile which will be discussed in further detail at the consultations. The commonly available types of implants are saline, hydrogel and highly cohesive Silicone Gel implants.
The procedure usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. The length of the incision is usually 3cm to 6cm under the breast crease, depending on the size of the implant. Total blood loss is usually less than 3ml. Bleeding is stopped using a diathermy. The implant insertion and positioning takes less than 3 minutes including both sides.
Breast reduction
Mammoplasty or breast reduction is a surgery to remove excess skin and fat from the breasts, thereby reducing their size to be in proportion with the rest of the body.
The surgery usually takes 1 and a half to 3 hours to perform depending on the size of the breasts and the type of incision used.
Breast uplift (mastopexy)
Breast uplift is a procedure for women with, droopy or saggy breasts who are looking to have them (nipple position and breast mount) restored to a more youthful position. It is a shaping procedure that rejuvenates and contours the breasts, but does not add volume. It involves actual sculpting of the breast and is best performed by a surgeon, with artistic skill and a good sense of aesthetics.
The surgery usually takes 1 ½ to 3 hours. Before the operation, the new site for the nipple is marked on each side. Generally this is calculated depending on the height and shape of the body.
Male breast reduction
Excessive fat or glandular tissue in the male breast (gynecomastia), in adolescents and older men is much more common, than is acknowledged. An estimated 40 – 60 percent of men suffer from this condition, (affecting either one or both breasts) at some time in their lives. Following surgery, most men experience an improved body shape and enhanced self confidence.
The surgery usually takes about an hour and a half to perform; more extensive surgery can take significantly longer.
Male pectoral augmentation
Pectoral augmentation is the procedure of enhancing the male pectoral area, usually by means of implants. The ideal, is to approximate the look of well developed pectoral muscle.
The surgery usually takes approximately 1 hour. Following the incision, a pocket is created, under the major pectoral (chest) muscle or just under the fascia covering this muscle. An implant sculpted to the desired shape and size to achieve the desired result, is inserted into the cavity. The implant is secured in place using small self-dissolving sutures, after which the incision is closed. The wound is then covered with dressings.
