Singelberg Clinic: Cosmetic and plastic surgery in Belgium
British and Belgian trained surgeons
Dr Oelbrandt is a very experienced plastic surgeon, trained both in Belgium and abroad (UK, US and India). He trained in Essex, London, and several famous hospitals in India and Belgium. He is fully registered with the Belgian and British General Medical Councils and is a member of the Belgian Royal Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The fact that training took place in both the UK and US is rare, as most surgeons operating abroad don’t know the british medical system, and hence, have no local contacts.
Dr Oelbrandt works both in a private clinic, and in a Belgian NHS hospital. Smaller cases (eg breast enlargement, liposuctions, eyelids, mini facelifts, ears, etc... are done as a day case in the SingelbergClinic; more complex cases are done in the Belgian public (NHS-like) hospital, where longer operations and overnight stays are possible.
The goal of the Singelberg Clinic, in Beveren-Waas, Belgium, is to perform plastic and cosmetic surgery at affordable prices whilst maintaining the highest quality.
Cosmetic surgery consultations in London
By bringing the consultations to London and the operations to Belgium, the Singelberg Clinic can offer people a more affordable operation, whilst at the same time maintaining a high quality.
All consultations and aftercare/check-ups are done by the plastic surgeon (Dr Oelbrandt) himself. Most patients use Eurostar to go to Brussels, and take a train from there to go to the private Singelberg Clinic, or to the public hospital at Bornem.
SingelbergClinic (private clinic, day case)
This is a brand-new and very private clinic where only smaller cases are done (eg breast enlargement, liposuctions, eyelids, mini facelifts, ears, …). At the end of the day, the patient will go to a near-by hotel (one is a walking distance away, and the other is 10 min by taxi). The next day there is a check-up in the clinic.
When taking a train from Brussels to the clinic, it is walking distance from the local train station.
Cosmetic surgery in the Belgian public hospital
The Sint-Jozef Kliniek is situated in Bornem, in the northern part of Belgium, close to the well known Flemish town of Antwerp (20 km), but still only 30 kms (20 miles) from Brussels, the heart of European affairs.
Access to the hospital by road is very easy via the modern motorway system or via rail, with the local railway station being just a 5 minute walk away from the hospital. Parking facilities are also available on the premises.
In contrast to the private SingelbergClinic (and most other private clinics in Belgium), the patient can stay overnight in the hospital of Bornem as long as is medically required.
There are three hotels close-by , two of them are within walking distance.
Problem’s such as MRSA infection, which is known to be the cause of death in hospitals in other countries, are uncommon in Belgium, thanks to a strict infection control policy. Sterilisation procedures in hospitals are very strict, and are consistently regulated by the national authorities.
Insurance – Professional Indemnity
All surgeons who work within the Belgian NHS must be professionally insured, whilst this might not the case if a surgeon only works in a private clinic.
In the hospital of Bornem, extra care is possible such as an emergency department, intensive care, radiology , cardiology, vascular surgery, etc… Nearly all medical and surgical specialities are represented.
In practical terms, this means that unforeseen complications can always be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery
Only surgeons who are fully licensed and recognised by the Belgian government can call themselves 'plastic surgeon'. The Belgian GMC tags a number to every plastic surgeon, ending with – 210. That’s how you can recognise a Belgian plastic surgeon.
This means that a 'cosmetic surgeon' is not necessarily is a plastic surgeon. A cosmetic surgeon did not have the training of plastic surgeon. Plastic surgery training is very all-round and includes both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. This means that a plastic surgeon also masters the whole scope of reconstructive procedures (burns, microsurgery, cleft lip etc...).
