Revenues of independent hospitals and clinics in the UK (excluding NHS pay beds) reached an estimated £2,475 million in calendar 2002, up 8.5% on the previous year. On the back of government initiatives to encourage NHS use of independent sector hospitals, strong self-pay business and increased usage amongst the population insured for private medical treatment, independent hospitals are likely to experience growth well above the average for the economy again in 2003.
