The Cromwell Breast Centre is raising funds for the charity Breast Cancer Care by selling pin badges throughout the Hospital for the month of October.
Breast Cancer affects 1 in 9 women in the UK, but if breast cancer is diagnosed before it spreads to other body organs, treatment is more likely to be successful and the cancer is less likely to recur. About 9 in 10 women who receive early treatment survive for ten years or more.
Breast Cancer Screening is particularly important, especially for the higher risk individuals such as those with a family history of breast cancer and it really does save lives. According to a report from the World Health Organisation Cancer Department, deaths from breast cancer are cut by 35% for women aged between 50 and 69 years who take part in screening programmes.
There is increasing demand for rapid access to comprehensive facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. To meet this need Cromwell Hospital has established a Breast Clinic offerings the full range of breast specialist services, from diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up. The Clinic can also offer advice on; high risk screening for individuals predisposed to getting breast cancer, hormone replacement therapy and mastalgia (breast pain).
